Write Aurora program

April 17, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Free

What inspires artists to create? Sometimes artists are inspired by the natural world or historic events, and even by other works of art. The city of Aurora, in collaboration with Lighthouse Writers Workshop is offering an opportunity to explore this creative process and to learn creative writing from a professional poet at the Write Aurora program.

Aurora’s Department of Library and Cultural Services is offering a series of writing workshops in celebration of National Poetry Month, conducted by Aurora Poet Laureate Jovan Mays. During each session, the poet laureate will guide even the most inexperienced writers in their efforts to express their thoughts and emotions through the structure -and fluidity- of poetry.

Rifle through the pages of classic literature, modern fiction and poetry across time; borrow ideas from established writers and riff off of themes that have driven pen to paper for hundreds of years.

Learn more about Jovan Mays here.

This unique writing experience is free to the public but does require registration by phone at 303.326.8650 or online (be sure to select the correct dates).

Children are welcome and encouraged to attend but must be at least 8 years old. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
