Resource guide for grandparents and their families
This heartwarming comedy tells the story of Charlie, a race-track regular, who has had a race named in his honor. A dreamer and teller of tall tales, Charlie is accompanied by his wife of fifty-three years, Mary Lee, an incurable romantic, Jackie, a family friend and race track bookie, and their daughter, Mary, a divorced his-school drama teacher, the realist in the family. Mary has invited her boyfriend, Paul to finally meet her parents. Since it’s such a special day, Charlie pressures Jackie to place the best of his life—his meager life savings, the “whole shebang” on a long-shot horse. This is a funny, poignant story about love between a couple with long history, the challenges of growing old, the bonds that keep families close.
