Sobibor is based on the history of the Sobibor extermination camp uprising during WWII.
When Soviet officer Alexander Pechersky was a POW in Sobibor, he managed to do the impossible-to organize a revolt and mass escape of the prisoners. On October 15, 1943, rebellion burst out in the camp: after killing 12 SS-officers, 30 prisoners managed to break the fences and hide in the forest. Many of the escapees were later caught and dies-the rest, leb Pechersky, managed to join the partisans.
