Resource guide for grandparents and their families
The year was 1924. The setting was a train from New York to Boston, and the composer was George Gershwin. It was here he found inspiration for his famed piece, Rhapsody in Blue, and placed his stamp on American musical history. Of his own work he wrote, “I heard it as a sort of musical kaleidoscope of America, of our vast melting pot, of our unduplicated national pep, of our metropolitan madness.” Join us at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House as we welcome New York pianist Steven Mayer and the acclaimed Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble. We’ll bring to life the great American sounds of Gershwin, Bernstein, Copland and more.
Selections include: Rhapsody in Blue, Three Dance Episodes from On the Town, Scenes from Porgy & Bess, Sing Sing Sing!, and more!
